Local to Global: What Locally Led Development Means for Young Professionals in International Development
In recent years, U.S. government agencies and other actors have increasingly funneled into locally-led initiatives to further sustainable development. According to USAID, locally-led development is “the process in which local actors – encompassing individuals, communities, networks, organizations, private entities, and governments – set their own agendas, develop solutions, and bring the capacity, leadership, and resources to make those solutions a reality.”
As locally-led development gains momentum, this panel will explore how this movement will impact young professionals around the world. Will roles change as the sector moves to employing local professionals? What can international development professionals outside the developing world do to support this effort while also building their own careers?
Join this panel discussion to explore ways on how young professionals around the world can create alliances to support locally led development.
Speakers:
Ben Feit, Creative Associates
Simi Nwogugu, Junior Achievement Africa
Susan Reichle, International Youth Foundation
Manoli Strecker, DevWorks International
Moderator:
Carla Koppell, Georgetown University
